What Participants Can Expect: A Deep Dive into Building
Attendees won’t just be listening; they’ll be actively building, networking, and learning from peers.
The agenda is packed with opportunities such as:
- Hands-on Workshops & Expert Guidance: The event will showcase structure sessions demystifying Sui blockchain’s fundamentals, including its object-centric model and parallel transaction processing. This will also feature vision on the Move programming language, the secure smart contract language native to Sui via dedicated blockchain training modules.
- Direct Mentorship from Industry Leaders: A standout feature is access to seasoned experts directly from the Sui Foundation. Developers will receive coaching from Move language experts and even gain direct access to Sui’s Head of Developer Relations. This invaluable personalized guidance provides developers with direct training from those interacting with blockchain networking.
- Collaborative Hacking & Solution Building: As per the logo, the Hacker House will host competitive hacking sessions with teams of four. Each team will collaborate to conceptualize, design, and develop prototypes or Minimum Viable Products on the Sui blockchain. This intense focus on building a practical decentralized application is central to the event’s core aim.
- Networking & Community Building: Beyond coding, the event serves as a powerful networking nexus. Connecting like-minded peers, potential co-founders, experienced entrepreneurs, and representatives is a gold mine for anyone new to the space. Furthermore, it fosters Lagos developer community-building relations that extend beyond the six-day event.
- Project Showcase & Recognition: AT the end of the events, teams will present their creations and receive valuable feedback from experienced mentors. The core aim is to showcase how practical solutions can be built on decentralized networks.

Semicolon Africa: Driving Tech and Web3 in Nigeria
Semicolon Africa, the organizer of the Sui Lagos Hacker House, is a Nigerian edtech startup founded by Sam Immanuel back in 2019.
The core aim of the organization is to tackle youth unemployment head-on by developing high-caliber software engineers and tech entrepreneurs through its variety of programs.
Semicolon has trained over 800 software engineers through its flagship technology programs that blend software engineering, design thinking, and business management.
With a 98% economic engagement rate for graduates, the program has launched 12 startups and partnered with Henley Business School to refine its curriculum.
The organizations recently took a new tangent as blockchain developers have become a rising need, especially within Africa, accounting for only 3% of the total count.
While partnering with the Sui Foundation, the organization has developed a Sui blockchain training program.
This initiative is meticulously designed to equip developers with the core competencies required for any developer. The programs include:
- Sui Architecture & Concepts: Deep dive into Sui’s unique design principles.
- Mastering Move: Hands-on coding experience writing secure smart contracts.
- Frontend Integration: Connecting Sui smart contracts to user interfaces.
- dApp Development: Practical project work building decentralized applications on Sui.
Expanding the Web3 Ecosystem in Africa
Semicolon has gained quite the attention, having partners with the likes of Mysten Labs and Inurere Foundation to establish a significant $1.3 million endowment fund.
The fund provides low-interest loans specifically for students in Semicolon’s Techpreneurship program focusing on blockchain skills, directly addressing financial barriers.
Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder of Mysten Labs, stated:
Supporting Nigerian students while inviting more builders to learn the programming language that has defined my career is immensely rewarding. With the rise of AI and blockchain, we are committed to ensuring African students are high-level contributors to the global tech workforce.
The sui developer workshop on June 23 is focused on nurturing young talent into developing Africa’s blockchain ecosystem.
A Catalyst for Africa’s Blockchain Future
The Sui Lagos Hacker House exemplifies how collaboration between edtech pioneers and blockchain innovators can accelerate Africa’s digital transformation.
Equipping local talent with the skills to develop decentralized applications creates a trend where we no longer need to rely on others to foster our development.
